My shooting bud uses Contenders all the time. He has some wierd calibers too! Mostly for prairie dogs he uses a 6MM TCU, which is a .223 case necked up to 6MM. He even has a barrel in the .50 Beowul ...

I made the Varmint Hunters Assn "Down Range Club", or the 500 yard club if you will with a 518 yard shot on a prarie dog with a Ruger K77VT in .223 Remington. Took 4 shots!

Mad I feel for you guys too! Down here in New Mexico, spingtime means wind. We had 25 mph winds last weekend with gusts hitting 40-45 mph. Any prairie dog that wasy up out of his burrow had to lea ...

Save yourself some time and effort. There is already a cartridge like that called the .20 Tactical. I think dies and stufff are even available.

I know I've seen info on it on other sites, but don' ...

Party I'll prolly get a lot of flack about this answer, but I bet I get a lot of supporters too. For the best ALL AROUND varmint round, the .223 can't be beat.

You can load it slow or fast, the ...

Well, the BR part of the name means "Bench Rest," so it ought to be accurate enough, and I read in my loading manuals that it produces enough fps to wallop just about any varmint or predator that you ...

Hi Popgun,

I wasn't trying to be a smart ass. I wish I could get some of that 50% hunidity. Here in New Mexico, the only time it, well mostly the only time it gets like that, is when it does rain ...

I'm surprised that no one has said this about your reloading in the rain yet. Most of the reloading manuals I've used had a blurb about it too.
When you reload in inclement weather, especially rain, ...

I remember a particular miss once that was kind of funny. I had picked up a new rifle I hade built in .221 and could not wait to shoot it. I got to the ranch where I shoot prairie dogs and took aim ...

Very Happy I tried to be a great shot with a pistol, but I couldn't hit the side of a barn. Then a friend I met shooting prairie dogs fixed all that for me. He put me inside the barn! Cool

Very Happy This prolly don't count for what you're looking to do, but I have used Nosler Ballistic Tips in 40 through 55 grains for prairie dogs and they really make em pop! Just my 2 cents worth. Wish the ...

Thanx for the welcome fellas! I will be honest though and tell you that the range I shot those groups at has a tunnel, actually an indoor/buried culvert, so there was no wind to speak of. Just me br ...

Like others, I have used Ramshot TAC for loads in my .223. Another plus for Ramshot is that it is usually a buck or two cheaper than other powders. As its popularity grows, like anything else, I'm s ...
