For years I struggled with touch hole liners with slotted heads. After a session at the range, it was often quite difficult to remove the touch hole liner to clean the muzzleloader. Even using choke tube lube and anti-seize lubricant on the threads was no guarantee of easy liner removal. The slots became stretched and on one occasion I damaged the barrel threads on a Lyman Trade Rifle while trying to drill the liner out. My local gunsmith drilled out the 6-.75mm threads to 1/4-28 and installed a T/C liner with allen head. I was able to buy allen head liners for my T/C flintlocks and made the change.

The folks at RMC -Ox-Yoke (who sell roundball patches) offer allen head liners for Lyman and T/C flintlocks. They have a website and a lot of neat stuff. I ordered enough allen head liners to convert all my Lyman flintlock rifles and changed them out. Now life is good. Just an FYI. All the best...

the idea of shooting blackpowder front stuffer looks a heck of a lot more appealing when you can roll ya own powder and fire it using cap gun caps bought from kids toy store dirt cheap.......

Elvis, good site, thanks. Always interested in how they go black down there. It could be that they start with the lead ball, put the powder on top and hold the rifle upside down. Thanks to the internet we learn things about the other side of the world

Now serious: you easely know enough to start with black powder, but you never know it all, so there is always room to learn something.


for your info: the only time I heard about using urine was to drawn a load for a safe transport home when you couldn't get the ball completely down in the barrel...

wilbur smith mentions it in one of his books when they making it out in the wilderness,scaped hydrax pee that had christalized on rocks and added thier own if my memory serves me rightly.
