I’m sitting here chomping at the bit awaiting the arrival of the scope mount for my SMLE from Addley Precision, a Canadian company. Projected arrival date is 17 August 2020. Once this is fitted andI have mounted a scope, load development recommences. This means range time, recoil therapy...WOO HOO.

Gidday mate...sorry for the delay. My Mk5 #1 was manufactured in England in 1947.

Well, the scope mount for my Jungle Carbine finally arrived yesterday...three guesses what I was doing last night Very Happy Very Happy .

The Addley Precision mount fits beautiful and looks like the rifle came out with it fitted by the factory. I had a selection of scopes and rings to choose from, but damned if I had a set of rings for a Picatinny rail. I managed to get a set fitted ok then looked at which scope to fit. I initially immediately ummed and ahhed between a 3-9x40 and a 4-12x50 with an illuminated reticle (both Nikko Stirling Mountmaster scopes). I then thought about the range I was likely to shoot at, scratched my head and revisited the scopes I had available. I have a 4x32 and a 6x40...both fixed power Nikko Stirling Mountmaster...and decided that the 4x32 was the best option because of the increased field of view.

The Jungle Carbine looks pretty schmick with the scope mounted, although I am of two minds about looking at some new rings. My shooting buddy has a 180gr mold in .312”, so I am even going to cast up some and see how they shoot. Now to get back into some load development and get some recoil therapy.

I’ll get a better pic today in the daylight.

4x32 is a wise choice...now I do seriously suggest you take leaf out of our mate Deer Snipers book and add as many sets of rings in that you can..you will definately fit 3 if not 4 on there...the recoil DIRECTION of the stock is maybe why folks always seem to have issues with scopes moving...I know we did no matter how hard we screwed up rings...a bit of insulation tape along side ring was I believe my last effort attempt to stop scope creeping under fire.
also looking at that,I believe a set of low weaver clip overs would be better option....the lower you can go the better.
looks good all the same mate.now when you go to the range...remember the bolt.

Yep, no way I will forget to take the bolt mate. I’ve been waiting so long to do this load development, there is no way I will stuff things up through stupidity.

Elvis...movement under recoil, which is quite stout with the SMLE, is a real consideration mate which is why I am looking at other options. I thought about putting multiple sets of rings on, but I didn’t have any extras and the cost is also a consideration...rings are more expensive than I remember.

Pete...I like the idea of the cheek piece. I don’t want to make any changes to the rifle that will reduce its value, so I will look at other options...maybe a soft riser that I can hold on with velcro.
