Gday allenpmw

Welcome to the lair of the nuts Very Happy
Pull a stump and grab a beer..

Thats an impressive list ya got there mate!

Please tell more of your wildcat adventures..

I starts wildcatting about 8 years ago, onlu made up a few mediocre tries.
I like low velocity rounds..
My best working wildcat is a 300 whisper.
Worse one is a 8mm mouser necked down to .223
in between I got a few dreamt up and tried out such as .380 auto necked to .308 , 300/357Max whisper and a few more.

i try to go cheep! haw can i get what i wont out of what i got!
i will use one chamber reamer to do a bunch of wild cats!

be carfull when you start this game i have blew up one rifle and hade to replace several bolt handles. knock them off with a stuck case.
my worst one was that dam- 270 ultra mag. the first shot i fired it stuck the case so tight i knocked the handle off the bolt! brobbubly should have used a little less powder. my cornagragh registerd 130gr bullet 4367fps

Hay allenpmw welcome

Holly crap man them kinda figures are just blowing my mind, that's some crazy stuf, but impressive tho,do you set up some kinda gig to fire the rifle so you are out of the way or do just big ball's it and squeeze that trigger ya self? I've just got into what I call long range varmint shooting but nothing like what you do though, whats your longest recorded kill?

No my thee sons and i aculy fire from the shoulder!
the 338-300 ultra has a muzzle brake on it. I hade to put it on. It kept braking leupold 6.5-20 scopes with out one.
The longest kill shot to date is 1603 yrds. on a rockchuck I took 5 shots to get it done. That shot was with the 338-300. To go long you need big bullets with a high BC. And you need to lonch them!
We my boys and i have run the gammet with long rang rifles. frome 25/06 on up.
I have a 6.5 mid that we shoot the close chucks with.
We only shoot the bigger ones at long range.

Hell every one needs a hobby!!
I own my own machine shop weld shop so its easy to build rifles.

Hey Allen, I'm wondering if you make your own dies. I'm setting up a little CNC lathe and I'm thinking about making dies for my wildcats. BJ

I would post some pict. But to be frank I dont know how. I'm no computer gurue!
And as you can planly see i cant spell for -hit!
I make my own dies out of A-2 Tool steel. 1600 deg then air cool.
I dont make dies for all my wild cats. Most of the time i just use or modify the dies i have. All the shortend 338 ultr rounds I just use reg dies and shorten them on my lathe. Its easy ther only case hardnd.
A trick to dies is just use a rough chamber reamer in your dies.
Always check them before you heat treat.

Anouther thing i do to save money is swop barrels!
stock $300.00
scope $300.00 - $800.00
trigger $200.00
why go to all that expens to own 20 rifles?
Anouther trick is use rem. take off barrels to try a new idea out you can get one for $40.00-$100.00
then if its a keeper buy a good barrel.
rent reamers $25.00
you wont a 338 ultra to fit a ruger rent a 338 ultra mag reamer $24.00
buy 338 ultra dies $29.00 cut .1875 off base set die in press to do a full lainght size. trimm .1875 off brass thers your go gage!
run reamer in intell brass just fits. this will fitt a ruger its a controle feed tough as nails big bear rifle. it will drive 225 interbonds 3100fps. Thats faster and harder hitting than a 340 wby.

Playing with wild cats doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg!
