Maybe a stupid question, but how are you measuring the velocity?

Through my chrony, distance is 10-12 ft from muzzle.

So please excuse my ignorance in this area, but what is the accuracy of the measuring device?

Could some of the speed variation your seeing, be error in the measurement?

I will say that I have ZERO experience in this, as I do not own, or use a bullet speed measuring piece of equipment, so mine could be 8 FPS, or 3 million FPS, I have no idea.

It would just seem to me as a mechanic, and knowing how pricey tools are, that something able to measure a projectile travelling the speed of a bullet would either be extremely expensive, or be prone to a little error room is all.

If i am wrong, please tell me so.

toddco, You may want to run some factory ammo through the gun in an attempt to determine if it's gun or ammo related !!!

I think the gun and the ammo are ok, i am just becoming a little anal about how well i can get it to shoot. I can group almost any load under an inch at 100 yards. today i found 2 loads that both shot under 1/2 inch. So in my quest to get this rifle to shoot as well as it possibly can i was going the extra mile with brass, bullets, primers, etc. Then i know it will all be me after that. Any advice, ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks for now.
