Ya see, you can try to chuck it, but the bugger will keep returning. However, if it don't come back it was never a boomerang, it wuz only a stick, so it's a bit of an enigma.

No, there are a couple of different types.
One is a heavier hunting boomerang, that will do more damage to things on impact with things like Birds, Wallabies, Roo's and Goannas and other tribes.
The other is the well known returning type which is also a hunting tool thrown into bird flocks, it returns if it doesnt hit anything to give you another shot.
No such thing a a returning boomerang that won't return, they are called sticks.
