Gents,
Anyone have experience with sighting in a T/C Omega with the Nikon BDC reticle? I have all the Nikon information but it is slanted toward centerfire.
I am told that 250 grain bullets with 150 grains of powder is the way to go, I have both, American Pioneer powder and 250 Gr bullets from T/Ca and Powerbelt.
I will start out about 25 yds and work out from there, That sound like the proper way to pair the set?
Any information would be appreciated, particularly concerning the combination above.
Thanks

They make a black powder BDC too. If you are using the Centerfire BDC the rings are roughly 1.5MOA, 4.5 MOA, 7.5MOA and 11 MOA below the cross hairs. If you have a chrono and can determine the BC of you bullet you could use Point Blank software to make some estimates of what distances the circles relate to. If you do not... I would set the cross hair to you mosty likely shot distance. In my case that would be 50 yards. I would make sure I had a good three shot group centered around the point of aim at 50 yards then move to longer ranges that you may encounter. When you move back do not make any scope changes and see where bullet holes hit compared to you cross hair point of aim. With the Nikon BDC you get the top of the circle, the 'hole' in the circle and the bottom of the circle to reference. This would be your 'hold over point of aim' for that distance.
Using a BC of 0.2 and a MV of 1800fps...My best guess is that with the cross hairs set at 50 yard zero you would be very flat from 25(-0.5") to 75(-0.2") yards on the crosshairs, the first circle would match about 100 yard, the second circle near 150 yards and the third circle would be about 200 yards. I would not advise shooting game with a ML past 200 yards unless you are using the Savage that can handle smokeless powders to get velocity over 2000 fps at the muzzle so the bottom circle is not of value here. You will not have enough energy in the 250 slug to make a clean kill at those ranges. (<50 Ft. lbs)If the BC is or your velocity is very different this will all change. You will need to verify each distance again if you change powder or bullet.
Have fun cleaning in between groups!
